Spring
In spring the cows produce the most milk and most farms milk the cows twice a day, at 5am and 3pm. Also spring is the time of year mating happens to get the cows in calf for next season. Spring is a really busy time of the year, calls are taken off their mother's and then have to be fed and taught how to drink. This way the cows can keep producing maximum milk yield.
Winter
In winter feed has to be carefully managed. Cows are fed just enough to maintain their weight and care has to be taken to conserve feed. A lot of supplementary feed like hay is fed out, as well as minerals. The dairy season starts in June but it only really gets busy in July/September when spring calving starts.
Autumn
In autumn the herd starts to dry off and milking decreases. Autumn is generally a quiet time and is when a lot of maintenance and fencing work is done. It is also when preparation and planning is done for the year to come.
Summer
In summer things start to slow down, because, depending on the weather the amount of milk the cows are producing drops. Cows are also given pregnancy tests to help aid farmers decisions for the year to come. Some herds are only milked once a day. There may also be irrigation and hay making user way.
